Happy Tuesday, everyone! Hopefully, you’re not like me and think today is Thursday. I’m sensing a theme here.
This past weekend was incredibly productive and I’m happy to report that I was able to get my mobility on. On Saturday, I headed over for another aerial yoga session.
Our instructor, Amber, was amazing and mentally guided us through the class. I point this out because I was finally getting over my sugar slump and I needed that extra motivation to be more present (instead of thinking about my meals for the next two days). Haha.
On Sunday, my plans changed up a bit – I was planning on going for a nice run outside, but instead opted for some walking and a late night yin yoga session. Have you ever trying yin yoga?? I highly recommend it. You hold various floor poses for 3-5 minutes. Talk about stretching out all that crap in your joints!
My new favorite hip mobility stretch is the shoelace pose. You’re basically a human pretzel in this pose, but man, does it feel good once you ‘re out of it!
The week started off with a nice, easy transition into work and ended with an epic CrossFit WOD:
Fuel Challenge Benchmark:
- 3 RFT
- Run 400m
- 10 burpees
- 20 pull-ups
- 30 kb swings @ 24kg or 16kg
- Time: 22:43
If I ever needed confirmation that I need to incorporate more endurance (running) into my schedule, this WOD sealed the deal. Trust me, it’s more brutal than it looks and that was probably my issue – I underestimated this one. Pull-ups to kb swings at a high volume = grip gone. Not to mention I was a little baby during my runs. Sigh. Even though I’m not doing the fuel challenge (cause of the Whole30), I definitely will revisit this one in a month’s time.
After class, I stuck around to help with the next group and eventually supported the first on-ramp class of the New Year.
I love talking to on-rampers. They have this look of pure fear when they walk in the door and I can totally relate. I especially love hearing about what motivated them to come in and we hear everything from a Yelp deal to my wife is making me. I love it.
Yesterday was also the seventh day of the Whole30 and so far, so good! Dave and I are planning our meals and sticking to the plan. Physically, I’m not quiet at the “tiger blood” phase – I still feel sluggish, but mentally, I feel alert and sharp. As coach Cheryl noted, “I feel like an alert animal.”
For dinner, Dave and I headed over to this Vietnamese restaurant and I made the discovery of a lifetime.
Introducing: Fresh Young Coconut Juice.
The name of this cracks me up, but I can’t even begin to describe to you how good this was – I’d like to think of myself as a coconut water connoisseur and this stuff was amazeballs. So good that I had to ask the waiter (after one sip) if they put sugar in it…AND THEY DON’T. Wahhhh? Needless to say, I had two and I will be back for more (probably this weekend).
What have been your amazing food discoveries?
