Hallo! We’ve just arrived in Zurich, Switzerland and I’m on sensory overload. This place is so different from any other city I’ve ever experienced and I’m not sure I will want to leave…
Here’s quick (sweaty) update from this afternoon:
I’ll make sure to post more pictures tomorrow and I can’t wait to share our experience from Reebok Crossfit Zurich. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to Crossfit Munich is morning — I blame the late night Haufbrouhous visit and the early morning rain. It’s a good thing we’ll be back there next week. 🙂
Does anyone have any recommendations for our stay in Zurich? Thinking about hitting up the Opera House…
Hi Everyone!
Apologies for busy super MIA. I’ve busy/stressing about this event and it’s finally over – yay! I have a ton of pictures and stories to tell, but for now, you can enjoy my very first vlog post:
Please excuse the lack of makeup, bags under my eyes and general goofiness. Dave is on his way over to Munich right now and we’re scheduled to hit up Crossfit Munich on Saturday! I’ve eaten so much the past few days that I might be rolling into the WOD…
Cheers!
This week is certainly flying by, isn’t it? I can’t believe I only have two more business days before I head off to Europe for two weeks. I haven’t started packing yet, but I laid out my large suitcase and started pulling together my suits–that’s a start, right? I’ll make sure to snap a few pictures of my clothes/toiletries before they are all packed up so you can see my OCDness at it’s finest.
Couple of items that I still need to take care of:
Seriously, how do people manage 12 hour flights without going mentally insane?? I don’t know about you, but if I don’t get a solid seven (yes, seven) hours of sleep–I’m a f-ing ZOMBIE. I can already picture my first morning in Germany going something like this:
Any travel tips or tricks to share? Let me know!
Here’s what today’s WOD looked like:
For some reason, I feel like a superhero when I do DB snatches. It reminds me of some type of Thor movement with his hammer:
Maybe? Anyways, I feel badass doing these with just a 25lb DB. Here’s the movement if you are not familiar:
This workout was all fine and dandy until I became lost in my sinus fog. During one of the middle rounds I somehow managed to knock my knee cap during the upward pull and boy did it hurt like a MF – it honestly felt like I hit my funny bone, except this brought me down for the count for a good 30 seconds. YEOW. I already see the knot forming…Should be pretty by tomorrow morning.
I know I’ve brought this up before, but I absolutely love the fall. The seasons are changing and the decreasing daylight is starting to become more noticeable. It also means hearty soups are back on the dinner menu. A little background for you, I grew up LOVING my mom’s homemade chicken stew and dumplings. In fact, I would request that meal almost every week during the winter. True story. Today, I still make her recipe, but only during the fall/winter seasons (plus it reminds me of coming home from soccer practice to a warm bowl of soup). Yum!
Tonight’s dinner was a surprise treat: Robb Wolf’s Slow Cooker Beef Stew
I’m telling you, this was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while and it reminds me that we need to get a bigger slow cooker. Our mini does a great 1-2 meal punch, but it’s time to step up our crock-pot game, extra-meal style.
What is your favorite fall-inspired recipe? And are you slow-cooker-obsessed like me?

Hope everyone had a great weekend! As you can probably tell, my weekend officially started Thursday evening and I’ve been on vacation mode up until this post.
Dave and I took Friday off, packed our bags, loaded up the camping gear and zoomed out to Pinecrest Lake Resort. My love for this little Sierra gem could turn into an entire blog series, but I’ll give you the high-level: I’ve been visiting Pinecrest every year since I was six months old and ironically, Dave had also spent some time in the same woods when he was a child. I love me some weekend getaways, but Pinecrest will always hold a special place in my heart. The lake, crisp air, hidden trails–all of it reminds me of my childhood.
Let’s not forget the fishing. Now, I’m no bass pro, but I know how to handle a trout fishing pole like it’s my job.
However, I can’t imagine trying to tie the hook or deal with the fish bait for that matter…
And I’m in no rush to learn how to clean a fish either. I just cast and reel ’em in.
Seriously, how serene does this place look? I honestly believe this is my personal heaven.
As with all fun weekends, the three days flew by and we were back to reality today.
This morning’s WOD was a little burner:
I went with 75lbs on the cleans (which were basically thrusters) and because I’m just out of reach of an unassisted pull-up, I opted for burpee jumping pull-ups.
I have to admit I have a newfound boost of confidence after a conversation with Dave this past weekend. (Yes, Crossfit takes up a lot of conversation time in our relationship)…I’ve been having this internal battle about reaching for the prescribed workout weight or sticking to my comfort zone. My fear is that I will work with the heavier weight, but my pace would be slower than a snail. As we’ve established before, I HATE coming in last and feeling uncomfortable with the weight.
Key takeaways or “Dave-isms”: Just get over it. Whether I’m first or dead last, if I’m pushing myself and improving (slowly) with increased weight, striving for the RX–it will always be worth the extra effort.
So, with these words of wisdom, I’m going to start biting at that RX weight. Little by little, I’ll get there. And once I do, then I can start worrying about time and beating the boys out the door.
Patience…
