Let’s be honest: Last week was shitty. I felt like a monster every minute of it. My stomach was working against me and I didn’t go to Crossfit once. Basically, I threw a week-long pity party and I couldn’t wait to feel better.
On Friday, I finally hit a wall at work and decided to drag myself to the doctors’ office. *Side note, I loathe hospitals, they smell like death and I wish they still made house-calls. And the initial prognosis is that my stomach is producing too much acid. What?? Have you ever heard of that? Me neither. So I’m stuck with some prilosec and an order to eat bland foods. Super.
One would think that having a marathon stomach ache would curb my appetite and I wouldn’t want to eat (thus lose some lbs). Wrong. I was dreaming of cupcakes and fro-yo the whole time (none of which I consumed, but I made up for it in other ways).
After a weekend full of wallowing in self-pity, I finally snapped out of it Sunday afternoon and prepped myself to make a glorious return to the box. (It definitely helped to have attended the cutest baby shower for one of the NorCal Crossfit ladies and spend some time with my friends from the box).
Here’s the WOD from today as prescribed by NorCal Crossfit:
- 5 Wall Climbs
- 10 Rolling Pistols
- 15 Ring Rows
- AMRAP 15min
I’m starting to appreciate wall climbs, especially now that I don’t feel like I’m going to break my neck while hiking up the wall feet first. But today was a different story: stomach bug/acid/burps/whatever did not allow me to quickly hit a set of five. I managed to complete 4 rounds plus 15. Not bad, not great. And pistols, I’ll save that for another post… I know I need to slowly ease into this (especially I want to to avoid a visit from aunt pukie). 🙂
Time for a little motivation. Did you guys watch the Reebok CrossFit Invitational? Pretty badass and of course, it’s always cool to see one of your coaches compete. Spoiler alert: U.S.A. dominated the competition with a 20-6 win over Europe. BOOM, baby!
I also have to share this incredible video. As the description states, “The following video was aired at the 2011 CrossFit Games during the opening ceremonies. If you have friends that are on the fence about checking out what CrossFit is all about, send them this video.”
Chills.
Question: How do you find your “groove” after being out from sickness, injury, travel, whatever?
