I hurt. I hurt reeeeally bad today. It’s a new kind of hurt as the pain is mostly isolated in my shoulders. Ironically, it wasn’t until I stepped into the box that I felt like a crumpling old lady. Thursdays usually have the smallest morning classes because it’s off-day for most people and today I found myself being the only girl suffering in the group.
Here’s our snappy little warm-up:
- Run 400m
- 1-6:
- BB Thrusters
- Burpees
- BB Squat Cleans
I was fully ready to go home after this. No joke. My arms felt like noodles and every time I grabbed the bar I thought my arms were going to snap off like a freakin’ Barbie doll.
From there we cranked out a max set of push-ups and worked up to our max squat clean. Did I mention my shoulders hurt this morning? They were SCREAMING at this point and I was so nervous starting the WOD that I started to get that awkward laugh that people get when they are ready to burst into tears.
WOD (via NorCal Crossfit)
- Complete five rounds for time of:
- 50% max squat clean 12 reps
- 50% max push-ups
Maybe because all my muscle fibers in my shoulders were fried, but I flew through this workout. I wanted to get it done as fast as possible. I took my time with the squats cleans (53lbs) and just powered through 25 push-ups for a time of 14:30. Happy to have that one out of the way. I’m hoping to make it in tomorrow morning, but if there is even a HINT of upper body movements programmed, I’m going to enjoy the extra Zzzs.
I need to give a shout-out to the “other morning group” that I like to call the “Kool Kids”–these individuals are so badass that most days they are already lifting during the 6:00 a.m. hour and somehow muster up more energy to join us weaklings for the RX WOD. Wimp doesn’t even describe how I feel when I workout next them. On Thursdays, instead of doing the WOD for babies, they have “Benchmark Thursdays” where they pick a Hero workout (or one that would make me barf) and just power through it like its Sunday Brunch. Amazeballs.
If I ever graduate and learn the secret handshake, I’ll make sure to update with insider information. 🙂
