When I saw today’s WOD posted last night I was instantly confused:
- Tabata DB Front Squats (45/25)
- Rest 1min
- Tabata Rowing
- Rest 1min
- Tabata pullups
- Rest 1min
- Tabata Deadlift (185/125)
- * 8 rounds of each
Uhh…so you mean eight different tabatas…as in, four minutes each. Super! Tabatas are (usually) quick workouts: 20 seconds of work then 10 seconds of rest, for a total of eight rounds. Personally, I love (most) tabata workouts, abs, push-ups, etc., but the thought of stringing eight together seemed really daunting…
We paired up for this workout to break up the group and I was lucky enough to start with the DB front squats. I couldn’t imagine working through the squats 3 rounds in…yikes!
I surprised myself by hitting 115lb for the deadlift weight. Magically, I just grabbed the bumper plates and loaded them up without really thinking about how much it actually was and even managed 5-7 reps per round. Not bad!
Overall, spicy little workout and I hope they program more of these tabata series in the future. In the near term, I feel a running WOD coming…yay…
Switching gears to eats, the past couple of days I’ve been munching on the PaleoKits that I picked up at the Crossfit Games and I have to admit I love the convenience of having a complete meal at my finger tips. As I’m sure most 9-5ers can attest, I can never predict when I’ll have time for lunch so it can be rather difficult to have a “complete meal”.
Side note: I don’t stick to one particular diet, but I guess it’s a mixture of Paleo and Zone. I’m currently reading, “Enter the Zone” (super cheesy) and have become really intrigued by the science/performance claims this book makes. I haven’t made the complete switch to Zone meals as I can’t wrap my mind around all that preparation (and math, yuck), but for the most part, Dave and I are pretty good with paleo-style dinners.
Anyways, the PaleoKits are awesome. The site even provides Zone “block” information for the math-challenged and proceeds of the products go to a great cause. Winning! Are you guys healthy eaters? More importantly, how/what do you prep for the work week? Paleo? Zone? Neither? Beer?
I just found out that next week NorCal Crossfit will be hosting Fitness Wave for body fat testing and I’m thinking about doing it…Have you guys ever had this done? Seems pretty cool, minus the whole revelation of your actual body fat percentage, but I’m kind of curious to see how my body is doing and establish a benchmark for some goals…Stay tuned as I might post a video like this guy:
