WHERE ARE YOU, WEEKEND?? I don’t know what was up with me today, but the yawns wouldn’t stop and I was ready to snooze on my keyboard at work.
My friend Rory sent me this picture today and it basically sums up my energy level:
You’ll come to find out that I’m mildly obsessed with bulldogs, both English and Frenchies. JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE. The pup I have now, Rosie, is still (and will always be) my #1 gem, but I’ll never be able to resist a bulldog’s mug.
Today’s WOD was a bit of a shocker: Chipper from the 2012 Crossfit Games. Yes, the one that just happened…four days ago. Ah, really? I’m still an awe from watching the elite power through this chain that I hadn’t yet wrapped my mind around ACTUALLY making it through myself.
- 10 OH Squats (155/105)
- 10 Box jump Overs (24/20)
- 10 Thrusters (135/95)
- 10 Power Cleans (205/125)
- 10 Toes to bar
- 10 Burpee MU
- 10 Toes to bar
- 10 Power Cleans
- 10 Thrusters
- 10 Box Jump Overs
- 10 OH Squats
I’m still not close to hitting the RX weight, muscle-ups or even a real “toes to bar” movement, but I managed to tailor this one to something manageable: 45lb bar OH/Thrusters and 75lb for clean with quasi-knees-to-elbows and burpee jumping pull ups. I can only imagine what I look like attempting toes to bar–probably something like a fat kid on the playground monkey bars…
As I mentioned yesterday, I ripped up my hands pretty bad during the pull ups and simply hanging on the pull up bar reopened up my gash. It hurt like a motha F’a. Honestly, I don’t know how people power through that pain–working out with open flesh on their hands. YUCK.
Seriously though, how do you workout if your hands are frickin’ tore up?? Post in the comments. I’m really curious. Special bandage? Tape? Tell me!
I’ll be honest, I feel a little badass completing this workout. Not only was it really fun to do, but when I was chatting on the phone with my dad today he mentioned seeing this “Crossfit workout on ESPN where they were going all sorts of stuff: box jumps, weights, ring rope stuff,” and I was proud to say I did that same workout. Obviously, I had to clarify I didn’t use that same weight and “ring ropes” are actually muscle-ups, but he could hardly believe I did something like that…
