Happy Monday! What an unusual work schedule this week–Two days on, one day off for the July 4th holiday, then back at it again on Thursday and Friday. I have this odd feeling it’s going to be more hectic at work, but I hope I’m wrong.
After taking yesterday off to rest and stretch out my legs with a couples walks with Rosie, I was back at the NorCal box this morning with my new pair of kicks. I’ve been working out with Nike Free running shoes for the past two years and needless to say it was time for an upgrade. I know Reebok’s Crossfit Nanos are all the rage right now, but I’m skeptical that they will work for me (plus the current 2.0 colors are NOT the business). I prefer shoes that can provide everything I need, especially ones that are suitable for Crossfit WODs AND running.
Naturally, I went old school and zeroed in on Invo-8s, but I couldn’t find a pair in my size and a color I wanted (not Black). Ultimately, Rosie, Dave and I ventured over to Roadrunner Sports in Campbell where I instantly spotted a pair of New Balance Minimus Zeros. Now, if you told me when I was in high school that I’d be rocking a pair of New Balance shoes during my workouts, I would have thought you were insane. I’ve always associated NBs with Big Five clearance rack, but here I am, in love with these babies.
After my WOD this morning, I think they are killer: Lightweight, breathable and have a bit of nerdy flare with the Vibram soles. Swoone. I’ll keep you posted on this love affair, but I think this will turn out to be a long-term relationship. Is anyone else SUPER particular about their Crossfit shoes?
Here’s the WOD from this morning:
- Find your best Clean and Jerk in 3 attempts
- “Gwen” 15-12-9, clean and jerks, touch and go, as much rest as needed in between sets
This was a spicy little workout. I hit 85lbs for the first part then scaled to 65lb for my sets. It was rough and my forearms felt like they were melting during my last set. I have a feeling my shoulders are going to be tore up tomorrow too.
Great start to the week!!
