Man, I have I been “slacking” on posting — (thanks, Chris for the slacker shout out).
It has been a crazy few days so I’ll just give you the highlights:
Wednesday: Whole30 day one and my body fat test was incredibly insightful–surprisingly, I was right on the money for my numbers and feel educated on how I will get to where I want to be.
Thursday: Rest day after a pathetic double-under WOD that nearly brought me to tears.
Friday: Killer WOD followed by the NorCal Formal. Fittest party crowd ever.
Saturday: We somehow dragged ourselves to the 9am class then later hiked up to SF for a divine dinner at Contigo. HIGHLY recommend this spot. It was incredible.
Sunday: Lazy day, caught some rays at Chris’ place in SR, dinner with the fam bam (Mom cooked her first paleo dinner–so proud!!) and a yin yoga sesh at peacebank yoga studio to wrap up the weekend.
I’m sooo happy I made it to the class as we worked on deep hip and hamstring stretches. Think sleeping swan pose for five minutes. Yeow!
Fast forward to this morning’s WOD and I’m thanking my yogi stars:
- On the minute for 20 minutes:
- 5 pull-ups
- 10 push-ups
- 15 airs squats
If you do the math, that’s 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 air squats.
Lovely.
I don’t know if it was because I felt like I had yoga super-powers, but I crushed this workout and I definitely need it. My spirits were a little dim from last week’s DU burnout and I needed this to gain back some confidence.
Today is day six of my Whole30 challenge and I’ll spare everyone the gritty details, but here’s some key takeaways (so far):
- As predicted, the cheese and alcohol avoidance is rough
- Dining out is nearly impossible, yet manageable if you bug your waiter enough
- My sugar cravings are minimal, but cookies have been on my mind and I just grieve for a quick moment and look to find some water
- I never experienced the carb-flu or felt sick the first few days, just annoyed at the extra effort for food
- Yesterday was the first day that I felt my energy levels perking up
- It’s hard to describe, but today my head feels clear, body feels strong, and I think I could disarm a bomb if I had too…
Finally, I’m still glued to the Olympics. Aren’t the athletic performances just awe-inspiring? In fact, the US women are playing Canada as I type–in overtime!! Obviously, as an ex-soccer player, I’m just thrilled for our women’s national soccer team. The ladies just exude passion and heart for the sport. I would be lying to say I didn’t miss playing, but I couldn’t be more proud to watch this team represent everything that is women’s US soccer. USA! USA! USA!
