I’ve officially come to the part of my crossfit story where I meet my first nemesis. Damn you, double unders (DUs). During the past few months I’ve had short encounters with DUs, they weren’t too menacing and were easily avoided. Now, DUs just feel like the playground bully. I can’t escape them.
I used to think that I was just never going to get even a single DU. I had accepted the fact that DUs were going to be my handicap and that I was just going to be “that athlete” who can perform every movement with the exception of DUs. I felt pathetic.
Until one day, like a fairy godmother, Mariko loaned me her magical Rogue Speed Rope and I was able to hit my first DU. It was spectacular; however, I naively thought that it was all down hill from there. I could easily start stringing 25 DUs together, right? Negative.
Fast forward two months: I have my own magical Rogue Speed Rope and I’m still struggling. Granted, I definitely have not put in the time or effort into mastering DUs–but let me just vent. WHAT THE HELL?? It almost feels like my brain will not fire the right signals to my wrists. Ugh.
OK, enough with my ranting. I need to suck it up and practice.
Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be as good as Buddy Lee (aka Deon Sanders’ twin).
The ninja stuff happens around 1:45, please note his awesome American flag bandana…Amazing.
Do you have an “archenemy” movement? If so, how do you strive for improvement?
