I’m so pumped for tomorrow’s festivities. Every Fourth of July holiday is usually spent in Chico with my mom’s side of the family–elaborate BBQs, swimming, almost losing a limb while secretly playing with the firecracker box–you name it, this all-American family does it, including wearing matching Old Navy t-shirts. We’re just that cool.
Seeing that this year is lame, and I’m experiencing my first Fourth on a Wednesday as a post-grad, I’m planning to do what most Bay Area locals do to celebrate, BBQ hop. I’m still trying to decide what I’ll be contributing this year, but think it will be something Paleo to balance out the rest of the goodies…recipes and pictures tomorrow.
Today’s WOD was another hodgepodge:
- Back squat: 3-3-3-3-3
- Plus Inman Mile (modified to 400m/600m or 800m)
I still struggle with back squats, but I managed to hit 3 at 117lb after bailing on the first attempt and receiving some encouragement.
The inman mile is basically where you lift/carry your body weight (officially calls for 1.5x) for a mile. Rough stuff. I wasn’t really feeling the barbell on my shoulders so I decided to grab two 16kg/35lb kettle bells and hike for 1200m. This was totally doable and if I had more time, probably could have made 1600m…the main issue with missing this mark was the fact that I had to grab chalk twice during the walk to maintain any sort of grip…
Coincidentally, I finally saw this hilarious video someone from our NorCal Facebook group posted and I just had to share:
Ridiculous and I love it.
